Book Description
Breaking In: Tales from the Screenwriting Trenches is a no-nonsense, boots-on-the-ground exploration of how writers REALLY go from emerging to professional in today’s highly saturated and competitive screenwriting space. With a focus on writers who have gotten representation and broken into the TV or feature film space after the critical 2008 WGA strike and financial market collapse, the reader will learn from tangible examples of how success was achieved via hard work and specific methodology. This book includes interviews from writers who wrote major studio releases (The Boy Next Door), staffed on television shows (American Crime, NCIS New Orleans, Sleepy Hollow), sold specs and television shows, placed in competitions, and were accepted to prestigious network and studio writing programs. These interviews are presented as Screenwriter Spotlights throughout the book and are supported by insight from top-selling agents and managers (including those who have sold scripts and pilots, had their writers named to prestigious lists such as The Black List and The Hit List) as well as working industry executives. Together, these anecdotes, learnings and perceptions, tied in with the author's extensive experience in and knowledge of the industry, will inform the reader about how the industry REALLY works, what it expects from both working and emerging writers, as well as what next steps the writer should engage in, in order to move their screenwriting career forward.

Symmetries and Symmetry Breaking in Field Theory

Symmetries and Symmetry Breaking in Field Theory PDF Author: Parthasarathi Mitra
Publisher: CRC Press
ISBN: 1466581050
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 112

Book Description
Many courses on modern quantum field theory focus on the formulation and application of field theory, leaving topics related to symmetry underdeveloped. This leads to students often having an incomplete understanding of symmetries. Filling this gap, Symmetries and Symmetry Breaking in Field Theory sheds light on various aspects of symmetry in field

Symmetry and Its Breaking in Quantum Field Theory

Symmetry and Its Breaking in Quantum Field Theory PDF Author: T. Fujita
Publisher: Nova Publishers
ISBN: 9781600212413
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 264

Book Description
Field theory has special complexities which may not be common to other fields of research. Symmetry and its breaking are most exotic and sometimes almost mysterious to even those who can normally understand basic physics. In this textbook, there is a focus on presenting a simple and clear picture of the symmetry and its breaking in quantum field theory.

Symmetry Breaking in Syntax and the Lexicon

Symmetry Breaking in Syntax and the Lexicon PDF Author: Leah S. Bauke
Publisher: John Benjamins Publishing Company
ISBN: 9027270120
Category : Language Arts & Disciplines
Languages : en
Pages : 317

Book Description
This book is a research monograph that explores the implications of the strongest minimalist thesis from an antisymmetric perspective. Three empirical domains are investigated: nominal root compounds in German and English, nominal gerunds in English and their German counterparts, and small clauses in Russian and English. A point of symmetry that has the potential of stalling the derivation emerges in the derivation of all of these constructions. Building on certain assumptions on how Merge works, this book shows that the points of symmetry can all be resolved in the same way; despite the fact that the three empirical domains under investigation are standardly derived from distinct structural configurations, such as head-head merger in the case of root compounds, head-phrase merger as it arises from standard complementation/predication structures for nominal gerunds, and phrase-phrase merger in small clauses. This book is of interest to all researchers working on syntax and its interfaces.

Time-Symmetry Breaking in Turbulent Multi-Particle Dispersion

Time-Symmetry Breaking in Turbulent Multi-Particle Dispersion PDF Author: Jennifer Jucha
Publisher: Springer
ISBN: 3319191926
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 121

Book Description
This thesis presents experimental and theoretical investigations of the connection between the time asymmetry in the short-time evolution of particle clusters and the intrinsic irreversibility of turbulent flows due to the energy cascade. The term turbulence describes a special state of a continuous medium in which many interacting degrees of freedom are excited. One of the interesting phenomena observed in turbulent flows is their time irreversibility. When milk is stirred into coffee, for example, highly complex and interwoven structures are produced, making the mixing process irreversible. This behavior can be analyzed in more detail by studying the dispersion of particle clusters. Previous experimental and numerical studies on the time asymmetry in two-particle dispersion indicate that particles separate faster backwards than forwards in time, but no conclusive explanation has yet been provided. In this thesis, an experimental study on the short-time behavior of two- and four-particle dispersion in a turbulent water flow between two counter-rotating propellers is presented. A brief but rigorous theoretical analysis reveals that the observed time irreversibility is closely linked to the turbulence energy cascade. Additionally, it is demonstrated experimentally that the addition of minute amounts of polymers to the flow has a significant impact on multi-particle dispersion due to an alteration of the energy cascade.

Breaking into TV Writing

Breaking into TV Writing PDF Author: Anton Schettini
Publisher: Turner Publishing Company
ISBN: 1684429889
Category : Performing Arts
Languages : en
Pages : 189

Book Description
The old screenwriting motto is, “Work on your script, and the jobs will come.” This is false. A great script is only as good as the effort you put into your career, but there is little information for the aspiring screenwriter about how to break in. Even those who study TV or film in college are taught to simply “get a production assistant job.” But then what? And how do you get that job to begin with? Breaking into TV Writing contains all the crucial information left out of most screenwriting books, like: How to get your first job in TV What TV writing samples you need How to break into the elusive TV writers’ room How a writers’ room creates an episode of TV Which assistant jobs are worth your time (and which you should avoid at all costs) Anton Schettini provides a rare insider’s glimpse of the modern-day network and streaming TV writers’ room. Here, you will find practical advice, career-path strategies, and first-hand accounts for how to establish your network, grow within it, and acquire the necessary tools to become a TV writer. The industry would love to tell you to put your head down, work hard, write a lot, and pay your dues; Schettini will show you why that hackneyed mantra is misleading, and how you can put yourself in the best position to break through the barriers and see your work on the TV screen.

Breaking into the Curriculum

Breaking into the Curriculum PDF Author: John F. Schostak
Publisher: Routledge
ISBN: 1000769607
Category : Education
Languages : en
Pages : 191

Book Description
Information technology is here to stay. Its impact has already been far-reaching: in business, in communications, and in leisure activities it has been responsible for replacing human action by that of machines. As such it raised questions about freedom and the meaning of work and human activity which could no longer be ignored by those working in education. The educational response to information technology must ensure that human activities are enhanced rather than enslaved by computers. Originally published in 1988 Breaking into the Curriculum provides one such response. A range of curricular structures and teacher roles are examined for their potential for preserving freedom in a future that was already being formed and informed by electronic systems. Drawing on case studies of pupils and teachers from throughout their school career, the authors of this collection sought to provoke discussion on the true ends of education and the kinds of strategies that would best realise those ends. Information technology, it is argued, is already shaping our thinking concerning the schooling of children. As such it can either create an electronically-controlled environment, or it can provide the stimulus for imaginative, playful, and creative thought and the development of ‘intelligence’ in its broadest sense. The choice is ours: the authors of this collection seek to inform that choice. Today it can be read in its historical context.
