21 Pieces for Violin with Guitar

21 Pieces for Violin with Guitar PDF Author: Thomas Heck
Publisher: Alfred Music
ISBN: 9781457401725
Category : Music
Languages : en
Pages : 44

Book Description
Scored by Thomas F. Heck for solo violin with classical guitar accompaniment, this collection includes pieces from Volumes 1-3 of the Suzuki Violin School. Heck, himself a guitarist and Suzuki parent, intended the arrangements to serve as interesting alternative accompaniments to the Violin School repertoire. The contrapuntal interest and enriched timbral possibilities of the violin-with-guitar combination result in unusually appealing chamber music performance pieces suited for young musicians. The intermediate-to-advanced level classical guitar notation is supplemented by chord symbols to enable non-classically trained guitarists to accompany the violin line. Titles: * Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star Theme and Variations (Shinichi Suzuki) * Song of the Wind (Folk Song) * Go Tell Aunt Rhody (Folk Song) * O Come, Little Children (Folk Song) * May Song (Folk Song) * Long, Long Ago (T.H. Bayly) * Allegro (Shinichi Suzuki) * Three Minuets from Notebook for Anna Magdalena Bach (J.S. Bach) * Chorus from Judas Maccabaeus (G.F. Handel) * Gavotte (F.J. Build a House

Build a House PDF Author: Rhiannon Giddens
Publisher: Candlewick Press
ISBN: 1536229288
Category : Juvenile Fiction
Languages : en
Pages : 39

Book Description
Grammy Award winner Rhiannon Giddens celebrates Black history and culture in her unflinching, uplifting, and gorgeously illustrated picture book debut. I learned your words and wrote my song. I put my story down. As an acclaimed musician, singer, songwriter, and cofounder of the traditional African American string band the Carolina Chocolate Drops, Rhiannon Giddens has long used her art to mine America’s musical past and manifest its future, passionately recovering lost voices and reconstructing a nation’s musical heritage. Written as a song to commemorate the 155th anniversary of Juneteenth—which was originally performed with famed cellist Yo-Yo Ma—and paired here with bold illustrations by painter Monica Mikai, Build a House tells the moving story of a people who would not be moved and the music that sustained them. Steeped in sorrow and joy, resilience and resolve, turmoil and transcendence, this dramatic debut offers a proud view of history and a vital message for readers of all ages: honor your heritage, express your truth, and let your voice soar, even—or perhaps especially—when your heart is heaviest.

Tracing Tangueros

Tracing Tangueros PDF Author: Kacey Link
Publisher: Oxford University Press
ISBN: 0190608196
Category : Music
Languages : en
Pages : 385

Book Description
Tracing Tangueros offers an inside view of Argentine tango music in the context of the growth and development of the art form's instrumental and stylistic innovations. Rather than perpetuating the glamorous worldwide conceptions that often only reflect the tango that left Argentina nearly 100 years ago, authors Kacey Link and Kristin Wendland trace tango's historical and stylistic musical trajectory in Argentina, beginning with the guardia nueva's crystallization of the genre in the 1920s, moving through tango's Golden Age (1932-1955), and culminating with the "Music of Buenos Aires" today. Through the transmission, discussion, examination, and analysis of primary sources currently unavailable outside of Argentina, including scores, manuals of style, archival audio/video recordings, and live video footage of performances and demonstrations, Link and Wendland frame and define Argentine tango music as a distinct expression possessing its own musical legacy and characteristic musical elements. Beginning by establishing a broad framework of the tango art form, the book proceeds to move through twelve in-depth profiles of representative tangueros (tango musicians) within the genre's historical and stylistic trajectory. Through this focused examination of tangueros and their music, Link and Wendland show how the dynamic Argentine tango grows from one tanguero linked to another, and how the composition techniques and performance practices of each generation are informed by that of the past.
