This study hopes to understand, from a broad perspective, what the death of Christ achieved and what theological results and implications stem from Christ's death on the cross. In this exploration it will be important to interact with Old Testament sacrificial law and Jewish practice in order to understand how Christ's death fits into that context. Additionally, the early understanding of atonement must be studied as well as how the doctrine came to be understood throughout the years. This study of the atonement will attempt to remain focused on Scripture, even while dealing with the various interpretations and theological persuasions.
