In 1889 the separate edition was suspended. It is now resumed in response to the large and growing demand for a work of this character from those whose 'chief interest in steam railways is in procuring comprehensive lists of officials; from those who have dealings with street and logging tramways; and again from those manufacturers who desire to extend their operations in the countries south of us. For such this edition is published. An effort will always be made to keep this work up to a point of excellence thatwill command support, and no labor will be spared to improve it wherever im provement may be found desirable. This edition is issued without advertisements except such as are interspersed among the pages of lists. In the back of the book (on the pink pages) is re printed the alphabetical and classified indexes to advertisers in the current edi tion of Poon's manual or railroads, which will be found a complete catalogued directory of the leading houses in this country engaged in the work of manufacturing or supplying railroads and their affiliated interests with all their requirements. Attention is further directed to the list of representative banks, bankers, trust and insurance companies, and other financial institutions whose advertisements will be found in the manual.
