Toward a Spiritual Research Paradigm

Toward a Spiritual Research Paradigm PDF Author: Jing Lin
Publisher: IAP
ISBN: 1681234963
Category : Religion
Languages : en
Pages : 308

Book Description
Spirituality and spiritual experiences have been the bedrock of every civilization and together form one of the highest mechanisms for making sense of the world for billions of people. Current research paradigms, due to their limitation to empirical, sensory, psychologically, or culturally constructed realities, fail to provide a framework for exploring this essential area of human experience. The development of a spiritual research paradigm will provide researchers from the social sciences and education the tools and abilities to systematically explore fundamental questions regarding human spiritual experiences and spiritual growth. A spiritual research paradigm requires an ontology that considers all reality to be multidimensional, interconnected, and interdependent. It requires an epistemology that integrates knowing from outer sources as well as inner contemplation, acknowledging our integration of soul and spirit with the body and mind. Three additional aspects are useful to a spiritual research paradigm: axiology, methodology, and teleology. An axiology concerns what is valued, good, and ethical. A methodology is the appropriate approach to systematic inquiry. A fifth and less frequently mentioned aspect is teleology, an explanation of the goal or end (telos) to which new knowledge is applied, such as gaining wisdom and truth, touching the divine, increasing inner peace, exploring hidden dimensions, or improving society. This book takes the first step to develop such a research paradigm. We draw from world spiritual traditions as well as scholarship that has arisen from contemplative practices. We also attempt to build a bridge between science and spirituality. Spiritual research is not necessarily opposed to scientific research; in fact, each can shed light on the other.

The Spiritual Quest

The Spiritual Quest PDF Author: Robert M. Torrance
Publisher: Univ of California Press
ISBN: 0520920163
Category : Religion
Languages : en
Pages : 387

Book Description
Robert Torrance's wide-ranging, innovative study argues that the spiritual quest is rooted in our biological, psychological, linguistic, and social nature. The quest is not, as most have believed, a rare mystical experience, but a frequent expression of our most basic human impulses. Shaman and scientist, medium and poet, prophet and philosopher, all venture forth in quest of visionary truths to transform and renew the world. Yet Torrance is not trying to reduce the quest to an "archetype" or "monomyth." Instead, he presents the full diversity of the quest in the myths and religious practices of tribal peoples throughout the world, from Oceania to India, Africa, Siberia, and especially the Americas. In theorizing about the quest, Torrance draws on thinkers as diverse as Bergson and Piaget, van Gennep and Turner, Pierce and Popper, Freud, Darwin, and Chomsky. This is a book that will expand our knowledge—and awareness—of a fundamental human activity in all its fascinating complexity.

Book Description
What if you could gather up all the shattered and scattered pieces of your broken heart and surrender them to a Master Artist who would then piece it back together into a BEaUtiful work of heART? ...a powerful kind of "Kintsugi of the Soul"...Kintsugi is the Japanese art of repairing broken pottery with a lacquer mixed with powdered gold. When an object is broken, rather than discarding the damaged and broken, the pieces are mended, and cracks are filled with precious metal and, in many ways, make the object more beautiful than it was at the start. As a philosophy, it is rooted in the inherent beauty of all objects, no matter what they've endured. And the philosophy behind kintsugi is the same one that inspires this book.Kintsugi is a powerful metaphor of Jesus Christ, the Master Artisan, filling and healing the shattered places within. As the broken places are tenderly pieced back together and repaired with his golden healing balm, they become a beautiful place where God's glory is revealed in our weakness. In "The Creator's Healing Power-Restoring the Broken to Beautiful" you will discover a path to healing with a focus on artistry, beauty, creativity and worship. Based on the Formational Prayer Model developed by Dr. Terry Wardle, "The Creator's Healing Power" is an in-depth and interactive Bible study exploring the connection between healing and creativity, prayer and redemption, surrender and beauty, worship and wholeness. As an interactive workbook, each chapter includes "Digging Deeper" Bible studies to help you uncover more about each subject area, exploring what God's Word has to say to aid us on our healing journey. Additionally, each "Digging Deeper" Bible study includes reflection questions to use as journaling prompts, song suggestions, and instructions for stepping into a creative process as a path towards healing. Throughout the book you will also find movie clips, songs and videos to use as you creatively process all you have learned. Each chapter concludes with a "benediction" of poetry and a coloring page-graciously shared by fellow artists, wounded healers, on the healing journey themselves. Poems included are by creatives such as Sarah M. Wells, Jan Richardson and Tom Graffagnino. Also included are stories and testimonies from artists and creatives who share how they have used their creativity to heal themselves and others. Are you ready to begin a journey of reclamation and redemption with the Healer of All Healers? Are you ready for the Master Artist to take the broken, fractured, bifurcated and scattered places within and perform "Kintsugi of the Soul" in you? Let "The Creator's Healing Power-Restoring the Broken to Beautiful" be the place where you begin.

Results of Spiritual Research

Results of Spiritual Research PDF Author: Rudolf Steiner
Publisher: Rudolf Steiner Press
ISBN: 1855845997
Category : Religion
Languages : en
Pages : 417

Book Description
In a previously-unavailable series of talks to the general public, Rudolf Steiner builds systematically, lecture by lecture, on the fundamentals of spiritual science – from the nature of spiritual knowledge and its relationship to conventional science, the path of personal development and the task of metaphysical research, to specific questions on the mystery of death, the meaning of fairy-tales, the significance of morality and the roles of individual figures in human evolution, such as Leonardo da Vinci, Raphael and Jacob Boehme. At the time of these presentations, Steiner had already worked in Berlin for many years, and thus, ‘…could reckon with a regularly returning audience to whom what mattered was to enter ever more deeply into the areas of knowledge that were newly opening up to them’ (Marie Steiner). As a consequence – and through ‘a series of inter-connecting lectures whose themes are entwined with one another’ – he was able to communicate a coherent and challenging spiritual perception of reality, based on his personal research. Presented here with notes, an index and an introduction by Simon Blaxland-de Lange, the 14 lectures include: ‘How is Spiritual Science Refuted?’; ‘On What Foundation is Spiritual Science Based’; ‘The Tasks of Spiritual Research for both Present and Future’; ‘Errors of Spiritual Research’; ‘Results of Spiritual Research for Vital Questions and the Riddle of Death’; The World-Conception of a Cultural Researcher of the Present, Herman Grimm’ and ‘The Legacy of the Nineteenth Century’.
