"Everyone breathes, yet few of us understand how to consciously control breathing to improve our well-being and the quality of many daily activities. 'Anatomy of Breathing' is a clear and helpful guide to both the theory and practice of breathing in its many variations. Hundreds of expert drawings along with easy-to-understand text help you explore just how breathing works. Once you're acquainted with the principal organs, structures, and forces that affect breathing, you will learn how to control them to enhance the quality and variety of breathing in your own life. Along the way, you will also correct many common misconceptions about breathing. 'Anatomy of Breathing' is filled with helpful practice pages. Here you will learn simple exercises to prepare your body for the benefits of different types of breathing. You will then be shown, step by step, how to practice some of the most common and useful breathing techniques on your own."--Publisher description.

The Human Respiratory System
Author: Clara Mihaela Ionescu
Publisher: Springer Science & Business Media
ISBN: 144715388X
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 233
Book Description
The Human Respiratory System combines emerging ideas from biology and mathematics to show the reader how to produce models for the development of biomedical engineering applications associated with the lungs and airways. Mathematically mature but in its infancy as far as engineering uses are concerned, fractional calculus is the basis of the methods chosen for system analysis and modelling. This reflects two decades’ worth of conceptual development which is now suitable for bringing to bear in biomedical engineering. The text reveals the latest trends in modelling and identification of human respiratory parameters with a view to developing diagnosis and monitoring technologies. Of special interest is the notion of fractal structure which is indicative of the large-scale biological efficiency of the pulmonary system. The related idea of fractal dimension represents the adaptations in fractal structure caused by environmental factors, notably including disease. These basics are linked to model the dynamical patterns of breathing as a whole. The ideas presented in the book are validated using real data generated from healthy subjects and respiratory patients and rest on non-invasive measurement methods. The Human Respiratory System will be of interest to applied mathematicians studying the modelling of biological systems, to clinicians with interests outside the traditional borders of medicine, and to engineers working with technologies of either direct medical significance or for mitigating changes in the respiratory system caused by, for example, high-altitude or deep-sea environments.

Respiratory Care Anatomy and Physiology
Author: Will Beachey, PhD, RRT, FAARC
Publisher: Elsevier Health Sciences
ISBN: 0323078664
Category : Medical
Languages : en
Pages : 483
Book Description
Perfect for both practicing therapists and students in respiratory therapy and associated professions, this well-organized text offers the most clinically relevant and up-to-date information on respiratory applied anatomy and physiology. Content spans the areas of basic anatomy and physiology of the pulmonary, cardiovascular, and renal systems, and details the physiological principles underlying common therapeutic, diagnostic, and monitoring therapies and procedures. Using a clear and easy-to-understand format, this text helps you take a more clinical perspective and learn to think more critically about the subject matter. Open-ended concept questions require reasoned responses based on thorough comprehension of the text, fostering critical thinking and discussion. Clinical Focus boxes throughout the text place key subject matter in a clinical context to connect theory with practice. Chapter outlines, chapter objectives, key terms, and a bulleted chapter summary highlight important concepts and make content more accessible. Appendixes contain helpful tables and definitions of terms and symbols. NEW! Chapter on the physiological basis for treating sleep-disordered breathing clarifies the physiological mechanisms of sleep-disordered breathing and the various techniques required to treat this type of disorder. NEW! Reorganization of content places the section on the renal system before the section on integrated responses in exercise and aging to create a more logical flow of content. NEW! More Clinical Focus scenarios and concept questions provide additional opportunities to build upon content previously learned and to apply new information in the text.

Pages : 236
Book Description
Human anatomy and physiology represent the cornerstone of medical science, offering a window into the complex structure and functioning of the human body. This curriculum aims to provide a comprehensive exploration of these subjects, guiding students through the interconnected systems that make up the body and explaining how they work together to maintain life. In this course, we begin with an introduction to the foundational concepts of anatomy and physiology, establishing a common language for understanding the structure and function of body systems. From here, we delve into the microscopic realm of cells, examining their components and functions, and then expand our view to explore the various types of tissues that form organs and structures within the body. As the course unfolds, we investigate the major systems that support human life, including the skeletal, muscular, nervous, cardiovascular, respiratory, digestive, urinary, endocrine, and reproductive systems. Each chapter is designed to provide detailed insights into the anatomy of these systems, explaining how they operate and interact with one another. Additionally, this curriculum covers key physiological processes such as blood clotting, cardiac function, muscle contraction, and nerve signal transmission, among others. We also examine the mechanisms of critical bodily functions like respiration, digestion, urine formation, and hormonal regulation, ensuring a thorough understanding of how the body maintains homeostasis. The ultimate goal of this curriculum is to equip students with a solid foundation in human anatomy and physiology, enabling them to pursue careers in health and medical fields or simply deepen their understanding of the human body. The content is designed to be accessible and engaging, offering a balance of theoretical knowledge and practical insights. It is my hope that through this course, you will not only gain a deeper appreciation for the intricacies of the human body but also develop the analytical skills and critical thinking necessary to explore the broader field of medical science. Enjoy the journey into the world of human anatomy and physiology, and may it inspire you to continue learning and discovering the remarkable capabilities of the human body.
