Book Description
From his early days as guitarist with Mike Sheridan and the Nightriders, Roy Wood was always a major figure on the Birmingham music scene. In 1965 he helped to form The Move, who weathered several line-up changes over the next few years while enjoying a spectacular run of hit singles, notably Flowers In The Rain, the first record ever played on Radio 1, and the No. 1 Blackberry Way. Keen to progress beyond the limitations of a conventional group, he became the co-founder and joint leader of the Electric Light Orchestra with Jeff Lynne. Leaving the band in 1972, he formed the very successful if comparatively shortlived Wizzard, remembered for their No. 1 hit See My Baby Jive and the perennial seasonal favourite I Wish It Could be Christmas Everyday. After they disbanded he maintained a solo career while forming subsequent groups for live performances. The first book to examine his career in detail, it includes a Foreword by Ray Dorset of Mungo Jerry, plus an extensive discography and select bibliography.
The Rolling Stones 1963-1980

Book Description
The Rolling Stones. Still going strong and defying the doubters, over 55 years since their formation, they possess a longevity almost unheard of in popular music - especially with three of the five original members still present .The majority of people, however, would surely consider their work during the 1960s and 1970s to be their most creative, influential and original, from the early R&B material through the psychedelic experimentation of Their Satanic Majesties Request, the country/blues flavorings of Beggars Banquet, the louche swagger of Sticky Fingers and Exile On Main Street through to the mature and sophisticated feel of the more complex Goats Head Soup. With 'new boy' Ron Wood replacing Mick Taylor in 1975, the band returned to basics a little more with the album Black And Blue and a resultant world tour which saw over a million people apply for tickets to a run of six Earl's Court shows in 1976. The band have continued as a major force since the turn of the '80s, but it is that period up to 1980 which this book looks at, studying in depth every single song released during the band in that time, via factual, anecdotal and critical analysis. It's only rock and roll, but this is the ultimate study.

Electric Light Orchestra on Track

Pages : 177
Book Description
2021 marks the 50th anniversary of the release of the first Electric Light Orchestra album. The ELO story is one of continued success for over 50 years. From inauspicious beginnings in 1971, where live audiences barely reached double figures, ELO would become one of the most popular bands in the world by the end of the decade, thanks largely to the songwriting and production talents of Jeff Lynne. There were hits such as ‘Evil Woman’, ‘Mr. Blue Sky and ‘Don’t Bring Me Down’; multi-platinum albums like Out Of The Blue and Discovery, and, of course, their spectacular stage shows. Although ELO finally called it a day in 1986, they re-emerged in 2014 as Jeff Lynne’s ELO, playing a triumphant comeback concert at London’s Hyde Park. Since then, they haven’t looked back, releasing further albums to critical and public acclaim, culminating in ELO’s biggest ever live show at Wembley Stadium and 2019’s chart topping album, From Out Of Nowhere. As well as examining all of ELO’s recorded catalogue, the author has spoken to many people who have been involved with the band over the decades, uncovering along the way previously unseen photographs and new information about the group and their recordings, making this one of the most comprehensive guides to ELO ever published. Barry Delve is an author and artist. He is acknowledged as the foremost ELO expert in the Chilterns, if not the whole of South Buckinghamshire. He is married and has managed to hold down a job as a graphic designer for most of his working life. He lives in Buckinghamshire, UK.

Electric Light Orchestra
Author: John Van der Kiste
Publisher: Fonthill Media
ISBN:
Category : Music
Languages : en
Pages : 239
Book Description
ELO (Electric Light Orchestra) were formed by Roy Wood and Jeff Lynne of The Move as a fusion of rock and contemporary classical-style music, combining orchestral instruments, guitars, keyboards, and drums in the same line-up. Their aim was to continue from where The Beatles’ ‘I am the Walrus’ left off. After the release of their eponymous debut album in 1971 and a few live dates at home and in Europe, it became increasingly apparent that both leaders’ objectives were incompatible. Wood left Lynne in charge of the group to refine their sound, and their ambitious progressive rock epics gradually gave way to a more accessible style. Keyboard player Richard Tandy and drummer Bev Bevan were the only other constant members in an ever-changing line-up. By the end of the decade, the group were rarely out of the British and American charts. After disbanding in 1986, ELO Part II (minus Lynne) returned for two albums, but Lynne reclaimed the name with an album in 2001 followed by a long-awaited reappearance in 2014 as Jeff Lynne’s ELO. Electric Light Orchestra: Song by Song provides a brief biographical overview of the bands’ contributors in addition to a comprehensive examination of all the groups’ studio albums.
