The creation of the world which consist of humans, the universe which comprises of all the existing matter and space as a whole is still a mystery which mankind has not been able to give a concrete answer to. Simply put a mystery is best described as something that is difficult or impossible to understand or explain. It can also be looked at as something beyond the comprehension of man. The Bible tells us that the mystery of God is Jesus Christ now revealed in us: Colossians 2:-3 KJV: “ In whom are hid all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge. From the perspective of the Bible a mystery is something that was hidden at one time but has been made known to the children of God. Unravelling the mystery of God is something that is beyond the comprehension of man. It is mind blowing and explosive for man to want to unravel it by their own human understanding, knowledge, or intelligence. This can only be achieved through the help of the Holy Spirit. That is why when Jesus was talking to his disciples about his impending crucifixion and resurrection in John 16 verse 13 & 14 “Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come. He shall glorify me: for he shall receive of mine and shall shew it unto you. So this book The Hidden Mystery focus on what aspect of God’s word could be termed as mysteries:- The mystery of conception and birth both physical and spiritual: The mystery of Faith: The mystery of marriage: The mystery of the Word: The mystery of Prayer: the Mystery of Life; The mystery of the cross etc. When it comes to the mysteries of God and the truth surrounding the creation of mankind, there is a constant battle going on in man’s mind. The raging battle is centered around “belief and unbelief” Such battles can only be won by submitting totally to the will of God.

Histories of the Hidden God

Histories of the Hidden God PDF Author: April D DeConick
Publisher: Routledge
ISBN: 1134935994
Category : History

Pages : 369

Book Description
In Western religious traditions, God is conventionally conceived as a humanlike creator, lawgiver, and king, a being both accessible and actively present in history. Yet there is a concurrent and strong tradition of a God who actively hides. The two traditions have led to a tension between a God who is simultaneously accessible to humanity and yet inaccessible, a God who is both immanent and transcendent, present and absent. Western Gnostic, esoteric, and mystical thinking capitalizes on the hidden and hiding God. He becomes the hallmark of the mystics, Gnostics, sages, and artists who attempt to make accessible to humans the God who is secreted away. 'Histories of the Hidden God' explores this tradition from antiquity to today. The essays focus on three essential themes: the concealment of the hidden God; the human quest for the hidden God, and revelations of the hidden God.

Spirit Epicleses in the Acts of Thomas

Spirit Epicleses in the Acts of Thomas PDF Author: Susan E. Myers
Publisher: Mohr Siebeck
ISBN: 9783161494727
Category : Religion
Languages : en
Pages : 300

Book Description
Susan E. Myers concentrates on two prayers, strikingly similar in style and content, found in the third-century Acts of Thomas. Each prayer is located in the context of Christian initiation and each is addressed to a feminine deity who is asked to "come" to be present in the ritual. The prayers appeal to the feminine Spirit, who is called "Mother," "fellowship of the male," and "dove," among other titles. The author examines these prayers in their historical, literary, and liturgical contexts, challenging some of the prevailing assumptions about Syriac-speaking Christianity in general, and the Acts of Thomas in particular.
