Deana Lawson

Deana Lawson PDF Author: Deana Lawson
Publisher:
ISBN: 9781912339983
Category : African Americans
Languages : en
Pages : 0

Book Description
Working closely with her subjects on setting, lighting, and pose, photographer Deana Lawson creates intimate depictions of Black bodies interacting in both public and private spaces. The resulting images are formally rigorous in terms of composition--every detail is meticulous and motivated--as well as suggestive of Lawson's personal connection with those she photographs. In Roxie and Raquel, New Orleans, Louisiana, two women--twin sisters--kneel in the center of a wide bed, facing away from each other, their backs touching. Each raises one arm above her head, gently touching her sister's hand, in a choreographed posture evocative of a stylized sculpture or a ritualistic, dancelike gesture. Both look toward the camera, but their expressions are not identical, and indeed the entire image is a study in similarity and difference.

Networking

Networking PDF Author: Tatiana Bazzichelli
Publisher: BoD – Books on Demand
ISBN: 8791810086
Category : Computers
Languages : en
Pages : 338

Book Description
Networking means to create nets of relations, where the publisher and the reader, the artist and the audience, act on the same level. The book is a first tentative reconstruction of the history of artistic networking in Italy, through an analysis of media and art projects which during the past twenty years have given way to a creative, shared and aware use of technologies, from video to computers, contributing to the creation of Italian hacker communities. The Italian network proposes a form of critical information, disseminated through independent and collective projects where the idea of freedom of expression is a central theme. In Italy, thanks to the alternative use of Internet, during the past twenty years a vast national network of people who share political, cultural and artistic views has been formed. The book describes the evolution of the Italian hacktivism and net culture from the 1980s till today. It builds a reflection on the new role of the artist and author who becomes a networker, operating in collective nets, reconnecting to Neoavant-garde practices of the 1960s (first and foremost Fluxus), but also Mail Art, Neoism and Luther Blissett. A path which began in BBSes, alternative web platforms spread in Italy through the 1980s even before the Internet even existed, and then moved on to Hackmeetings, to Telestreet and networking art by different artists such as 0100101110101101.ORG, [epidemiC], Jaromil, Giacomo Verde, Giovanotti Mondani Meccanici, Correnti Magnetiche, Candida TV, Tommaso Tozzi, Federico Bucalossi, Massimo Contrasto, Mariano Equizzi, Pigreca, Molleindustria, Guerriglia Marketing, Sexyshock, Phag Off and many others.

Book Description
Enghelab Street, or Revolution Street, is located in the center of the Iranian capital Tehran--a main artery in the city's cultural life with a host of bookshops. This book presents a variety of rarely seen photographic and propaganda books collected by Iranian-born, Paris-based artist Hannah Darabi (born 1981), drawing on works published between 1979 and 1983--years corresponding to the short period when freedom of speech prevailed at the end of the Shah's regime and the beginning of the Islamic government. Darabi takes us to the heart of an intense artistic and cultural period in Iranian history in a visual essay accompanied by a critical essay by Chowra Makaremi. With its revelatory landscape of publications, Enghelab Street gives us the opportunity to look at rare printed matter for the first time.
