Hair of the Alien

Category : Science

Pages : 364
Book Description
SHOCKING. CONTROVERSIAL. UNPRECEDENTED. A CASE LIKE UNLIKE ANY OTHER IN THE ANNALS OF UFO INVESTIGATION, DNA RESEARCH, OR ALIEN ABDUCTION. Sydney, Australia. July 23, 1992. Twenty-eight-year-old Peter Khoury was awoken by what appeared to be two females—both striking and unearthly—kneeling on his bed. What transpired between them was a physical assault as bizarre and disorienting as it was unnatural. Then, as quickly as they had arrived, they vanished. Khoury had become one of a legion of alien abductees with inexplicable experiences, but this particular incident stood apart from all the others. This time, there was evidence—two strands of white-blond hair from one of the females. Khoury’s case would result in the very first forensic DNA analysis of “alien abduction” evidence and revealed an extraordinary biological anomaly—one genetically close to human yet almost impossibly far from the human mainstream. A gripping account of one of the great mysteries of our time, Hair of the Alien, brings us closer than ever before to understanding our past, our origings, and our place in the universe.

Venerable Father
Author: Paul Breiter
Publisher: Cosimo, Inc.
ISBN: 1931044813
Category : Religion
Languages : en
Pages : 219
Book Description
Available until now only in limited editions, "Venerable Father" has become an underground classic among Buddhists, especially those practicing the Thai tradition. It details the joys and struggles of Paul Breiter's years with Ajahn Chah, who was perhaps Thailand's best-known and most-loved Buddhist master. Breiter describes Ajahn Chah as a figure who is at once human yet extraordinary, an orthodox yet unconventional teacher whose remarkable skill, patience, and compassion in training disciples flowed naturally from his deep and joyous realization of the truth. Breiter also explains, quite vividly, the life of a Westerner in a Thai forest monastery and the unique spiritual lessons to be learned there. PAUL BREITER ordained in the Theravada Buddhist tradition in Thailand in 1970 and soon thereafter met Ajahn Chah. He became one of Ajahn Chah's favorite disciples and his translator, and stayed with him until disrobing in 1977. Since then, he has maintained close ties to Ajahn Chah's lineage while studying Zen and Tibetan Buddhism, and he has continued to translate Ajahn Chah's teachings, which appear in "Still Forest Pool: The Insight Meditation of Achaan Chaa" (with Jack Kornfield) and "Being Dharma: The Essence of the Buddha's Teachings."

An Illustrated Guide to the Federated Malay States (Classic Reprint)
Author: Cuthbert Woodville Harrison
Publisher: Forgotten Books
ISBN: 9781333513566
Category : Travel
Languages : en
Pages : 460
Book Description
Excerpt from An Illustrated Guide to the Federated Malay States But the Portuguese themselves were being attacked by the Dutch. In 1606 the Dutch eet bombarded Malacca and nearly captured it and in 1641 the city finally fell. On this occasion the Malays assisted the Dutch from Johor, where the Malay kingdom had managed to raise its head again as the Portuguese power waned. Holland dominated the Malay East from 1641, but made no attempt to do more than maintain trading settlements. Some poor adminis tration of the Peninsula was carried on by the Malay princes in Pahang, Johor and Perak. It was about this time that a band of Malays from Sumatra effected a peaceful penetration to the hinterland of Malacca and established themselves, a highly democratic community, in what is now the Negri Sembilan. These were a remarkable people. They seem to have fraternised with the wild tribes they found in the country, and to have settled down to possess it both without fighting to get it and without fighting to keep it. Probably their numbers and organisation were too formidable for Peninsular Malay princes to molest. Besides this these princes began to be harried by the far more warlike Bugis Malays from the Malay Archipelago, and though the Dutch supported them against the Bugis the struggles between the two were absorbing.
